Psalm 127

Unless the LORD Builds

If God is not part of what you're building, all your hard work is for nothing! This applies to houses, cities, families — everything. Children are described as arrows in a warrior's quiver: they are a gift from God and a great blessing.

  1. 1Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain; unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.
  2. 2In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for He grants sleep to those He loves.
  3. 3Sons are indeed a heritage from the LORD; children are a reward from Him.
  4. 4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are sons born in one's youth.
  5. 5Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. He will not be put to shame when he confronts his enemies at the gate.

What it means

No matter how hard we work, if God is not part of what we are building — our home, our plans, our life — it won't last. But when we invite God into everything we do, He brings real blessing.

A little prayer

Lord, build my family and my life. Without You, all our hard work means nothing. Thank You for the people You have put in my life. Let everything we do be built on You. Amen.
