Psalm 128

Blessed is the Family

This sweet psalm describes a family that honors God. The parents work hard and enjoy their work, and children sit around the table like olive shoots — healthy and growing. When God blesses a family, the blessing spreads to the whole community.

  1. 1Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in His ways.
  2. 2You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.
  3. 3Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table.
  4. 4So shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.
  5. 5May the LORD bless you from Zion; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life.
  6. 6May you live to see your children's children. Peace be upon Israel.

What it means

This is a picture of an ordinary happy home: work that is satisfying, a meal together, children growing around the table like young olive trees. It is a reminder that God cares about normal daily life, not only big dramatic moments.

A little prayer

God, thank You for my family and my home and our meals together. Please bless the people I live with. Help us to walk in Your ways together every ordinary day. Amen.

Memory verse

You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.

Psalm 128:2 (BSB)

It blesses ordinary daily life rather than an extraordinary event.
