Psalm 93

The LORD Reigns

The LORD reigns — He is the King! He is clothed in majesty and strength. Even though the waves of the sea crash and roar, God on His throne is mightier than all of them. His rules last forever and His house is filled with holiness.

  1. 1The LORD reigns; He is robed in majesty. The LORD is robed in majesty and armed with strength; indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.
  2. 2Your throne was established long ago; You are from all eternity.
  3. 3The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.
  4. 4Mightier than the thunder of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea— the LORD on high is mighty!
  5. 5Your statutes stand firm; holiness adorns Your house, O LORD, forevermore.

What it means

The sea in this psalm is crashing and roaring, and God is calmly on His throne, stronger than all of it. Notice the psalm does not say the waves stop. It says God is mightier than the waves. That is a better promise than calm water.

A little prayer

God, You are King and You are stronger than the loudest, crashing waves. When things around me are noisy and frightening, thank You that You are steady on Your throne. Amen.
