Trust Like Mount Zion

People who trust in God are like Mount Zion — they cannot be shaken! Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, God surrounds His people with His protection. He rewards the good and leads the upright in heart.

  1. 1Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.
  2. 2As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people both now and forevermore.
  3. 3The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land of the righteous, so that the righteous will not use their hands to do evil.
  4. 4Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, to those who are upright in heart.
  5. 5But those who turn to crooked ways the LORD will banish with the evildoers. Peace be upon Israel.

What it means

Two pictures in one short psalm: people who trust God are as unshakeable as a mountain, and God wraps around His people the way the hills wrap around Jerusalem. You are both the mountain and the one being surrounded — steady, and safely held.

A little prayer

God, make me steady like a mountain that cannot be shaken. Thank You that You surround me on every side, just like the hills around a city. I am safe with You. Amen.
