Psalm 41

God Helps the Weak

God has a special love for people who care for the poor and sick. This psalm says that God blesses those with kind hearts. Even when David was sick and people were unkind to him, God still kept him safe.

  1. 1Blessed is he who considers the poor; the LORD will deliver him in his day of trouble.
  2. 2The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; He will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.
  3. 3The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.
  4. 4I said, "O LORD, have mercy on me; heal my soul, for I have sinned against You."
  5. 5My enemies say of me in malice, "When will he die and his name perish?"
  6. 6Whenever one comes to see me, he speaks falsely; he gathers slander in his heart, then goes out and spreads it around.
  7. 7All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying,
  8. 8"A vile disease has beset him; he will never get up from the place where he lies."
  9. 9Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.
  10. 10But You, O LORD, have mercy on me; raise me up, that I may repay them.
  11. 11By this I know that You delight in me: my enemy does not triumph over me.
  12. 12In my integrity You uphold me and set me in Your presence forever.
  13. 13Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! Amen and Amen.

What it means

God especially blesses people who pay attention to the weak, the poor, and the sick. And He promises to look after those who look after others.

A little prayer

Lord, help me notice and care for people who are weak, sick, or sad. Thank You that You watch over those who watch over others. Amen.
