Psalm 30

Praise for Deliverance

David was very sick and cried out to God — and God healed him! This psalm celebrates how God turned his sadness into dancing and his mourning into joy. It reminds us that even sad times don't last forever when we trust in God.

  1. 1I will exalt You, O LORD, for You lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me.
  2. 2O LORD my God, I called to You for help, and You healed me.
  3. 3O LORD, You brought my soul up from Sheol; You spared me from going down to the pit.
  4. 4Sing to the LORD, O you His faithful; praise His holy name.
  5. 5For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
  6. 6When I felt secure, I said, "I will never be moved."
  7. 7O LORD, when You showed Your favor, You made my mountain stand firm; but when You hid Your face, I was dismayed.
  8. 8To You, O LORD, I called; to the LORD I pleaded for mercy:
  9. 9"What gain is there in my destruction, in my going down into the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it proclaim Your faithfulness?
  10. 10Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me; O LORD, be my help."
  11. 11You turned my wailing into dancing; You removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
  12. 12that my heart may sing to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give You thanks forever.

What it means

Hard times and tears don't last forever. God can turn our crying into dancing — sadness may stay for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

A little prayer

Lord, thank You that weeping lasts only a night, but joy comes in the morning. Turn my sadness into dancing, and I'll thank You forever. Amen.
