Psalm 28
A Cry for Help
David cries out to God as his Rock — solid and strong and always there. He doesn't want God to be silent when he's in trouble! But by the end of the psalm, David is already praising God because he trusts that God hears and helps.
- 1To You I call, O LORD my Rock; do not be deaf to my plea. For if You remain silent, I will be like those who go down to the pit.
- 2Hear the voice of my supplications as I cry to You for help, as I lift up my hands toward Your Most Holy Place.
- 3Do not drag me away with the wicked and with those who do evil, who speak peace with their neighbors but have malice in their hearts.
- 4Repay them according to their deeds and the evil of their actions; repay them for what their hands have done and bring back on them what they deserve.
- 5Because they have no regard for the works of the LORD and what His hands have done, He will tear them down and never rebuild them.
- 6Blessed be the LORD, for He has heard my cry for mercy.
- 7The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy, and I will give thanks to Him in song.
- 8The LORD is the strength of His people, a stronghold of salvation for His anointed.
- 9Save Your people and bless Your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.
What it means
When we're afraid, we don't have to handle it alone — we cry out to God. He hears us, He helps us, and when He does, our hearts can jump for joy and burst into song.
A little prayer
Lord, You are my strength and my shield. When I cry to You, You hear me — my heart trusts You, and I'm so glad. Amen.
