Psalm 131
Quiet Trust in God
This tiny, beautiful psalm is about having a calm and quiet heart before God — like a weaned child resting peacefully against its mother. We don't need to understand everything or worry about big things that are too hard for us. Just rest in God!
- 1My heart is not lifted up, O LORD; my eyes are not raised too high. I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me.
- 2But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.
- 3O Israel, put your hope in the LORD both now and forevermore.
What it means
This tiny psalm is about resting in God like a calm child in its mother's arms. Instead of worrying about big things we don't understand, we can trust God and be at peace. Humility brings rest.
A little prayer
Lord, quiet my heart. Help me not to worry about things too big for me, but to rest in You like a calm child. I trust You with everything I don't understand. Amen.
