Psalm 131

Quiet Trust in God

This tiny, beautiful psalm is about having a calm and quiet heart before God — like a weaned child resting peacefully against its mother. We don't need to understand everything or worry about big things that are too hard for us. Just rest in God!

  1. 1My heart is not lifted up, O LORD; my eyes are not raised too high. I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me.
  2. 2But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.
  3. 3O Israel, put your hope in the LORD both now and forevermore.

What it means

This tiny psalm is about resting in God like a calm child in its mother's arms. Instead of worrying about big things we don't understand, we can trust God and be at peace. Humility brings rest.

A little prayer

Lord, quiet my heart. Help me not to worry about things too big for me, but to rest in You like a calm child. I trust You with everything I don't understand. Amen.
