Psalm 119

The Wonder of God's Word

This is the longest psalm — and the longest chapter in the whole Bible, with 176 verses! Every verse is about loving God's Word — His commands, laws, and promises. It's arranged like the alphabet in Hebrew. The most famous verse is: 'Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.'

אAleph

  1. 1Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD.
  2. 2Blessed are those who keep His testimonies and seek Him with all their heart.
  3. 3They do nothing wrong; they walk in His ways.
  4. 4You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.
  5. 5Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying Your statutes!
  6. 6Then I would not be ashamed when I consider all Your commandments.

What it means

The longest chapter in the Bible is all about loving God's Word! It is like a lamp that lights up the path ahead so we know where to step. When we read and follow it, we walk safely through life.

A little prayer

Lord, Your Word is my lamp and my light. Help me to love it, read it, and follow it every day. When I'm not sure which way to go, Your Word shows me the path. Amen.
