Psalm 11

God Is My Refuge

When people tell David to run away from danger, he says: 'No — I trust in God!' God is in His holy temple watching everything that happens on earth. He cares about those who do right and protects them.

  1. 1In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your mountain.
  2. 2For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.
  3. 3When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?"
  4. 4The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD is on His heavenly throne. He observes the sons of men; His eyes examine them.
  5. 5The LORD examines the righteous, but His soul hates the wicked and those who love violence.
  6. 6He rains down coals of fire and burning sulfur on the wicked; a scorching wind is their lot.
  7. 7For the LORD is righteous; He loves righteous deeds. The upright will see His face.

What it means

Even when everything around us seems to be falling apart, God is still on His throne. We don't need to run away in fear — we can stand firm, because the One who runs the universe is watching and is on the side of those who do right.

A little prayer

Lord, when things feel shaky and people tell me to run and hide, remind me that You are still on Your throne. You see everything. Help me to stand firm and trust in You. Amen.
